What you can control a gate with

• Remotes — the basics. Every gate we fit comes with remotes, and we can add or replace them at any time.
• Keypads — a code for the family, separate codes for the cleaner, the gardener or the holiday guests, changed whenever you like. No more spare remotes going missing.
• Video intercoms — a camera and call button at the gate, a screen or a phone app inside. You see the visitor, talk to them and open the gate without going out.
• Phone-app control — open the gate, check it is closed and see a log of who came and went, from anywhere with a signal.
• Vehicle detection — an in-ground loop or sensor that opens the gate as you leave and closes it behind you.

Wired or wireless?

On a short suburban driveway in Highton or Belmont, running a cable from the gate to the house is straightforward and gives the most reliable result. On a long rural driveway in Wallington or Moriac, trenching a cable hundreds of metres is expensive, and a wireless or 4G intercom that calls your phone is the practical answer. We plan this at quoting time, because it is far cheaper to lay cable while the gate is being installed than to come back for it.

App-based control lets an owner in Melbourne open the gate for a cleaner, a tradesperson or a guest without a key handover, and a keypad with time-limited codes means each booking gets its own code that stops working when they leave.

Weather at the gate

A gate station on the coast sits in salt air. We fit intercoms rated for outdoor use, mount them out of the direct weather where possible, and use sealed housings and connectors that keep moisture and salt out. A gate station that fogs up or corrodes in its second winter is not one we would put our name to.

Fitting to an existing gate

You do not need a new gate to add an intercom or keypad. Most gate motors have inputs for external controls, and where an older motor does not, a small receiver module bridges the gap. Adding access control after a retrofit is common, and it is the single upgrade that makes an automated gate genuinely useful for deliveries and visitors.

Security and privacy

Codes can be changed in minutes, lost remotes can be removed from the system, and app-based controllers keep a log of every opening. For properties with a granny flat, a home business or short-stay guests, that control over who gets in — and when — is usually the reason people ring in the first place.
